Nyonga Rugumayo Amundsen is the first African woman to complete a Masters degree in Biotechnology at a Norwegian University. She is also the first African woman to sit as Chairman of a board in the over 150-year history of the Norwegian Polytechnic Society - which is Norway´s oldest society.

In 2011, she was a contributor at the High level EU conference on Women in Science, Technology and Innovation in a Digital world held in Hungary. She also was a panelist alongside former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik on the topic of Women, Education and Economic development held in the United States of America.
Since 2018, Nyonga has been the Chairman of Friends of the Earth Norway, in the Sogn and Fjordane municipality.
